10 Totally Amazing Watches

Here are ten most astonishing ones.

Stonehenge watch

Nobody knows exactly who built Stonehenge and what for. Probably, observation of movement of the Sun was the purpose. Some scientists say, it was a both a calendar and a clock for ancient Druids.
So, with this piece you can feel like if you were a Druid or Merlin at the same time.

Looking as an absolutely normal pocket watch from the outside…

this amazing watch is much more puzzling from the inside.

Just find some sunny place, adjust the compass – and here you are! Very practical, though. That’s civilization for you: now one doesn’t have to carry all those stone slabs to know the exact time.

The Earth Watch

The technology used is so unique, that one can even see hours and minutes.
Seconds are not the case when you hold the whole World in your hands, or, more precisely, on your wrist.
This watch is delivered with 10-year battery, but with only half-year manufacturer’s warranty: one can only guess what is going to happen to our small planet after it expires.

Haruo Suekichi’s watches

Haruo Suekichi is a Japanese proprietor watch-maker, who makes only six or seven watches a week, but all of them are completely unique.
Each has it’s own name.
They are definitely not like leading manufacturers’ timepieces: here one idea and one design stand behind no more than one watch.
A watch for one-handed, which straps around one’s only wrist, or a watch for knowing time when one rides a bike, and many other alike masterpieces. Plenty of genius, minimum commerce.
Reminds a lot of Medieval craftsmen and, you may be sure of that, will worth a fortune in some hundred years.

Bluetooth Watch

It’s amazing how modern people are determined to hide their cellular phones so that nobody else can see them.
Bluetooth-based headsets help a lot.
But this device is a huge step forward.
It not only shows who is calling, but warns about received messages, controls media-player and makes many other useful things.
Besides that all, it is a very good-looking accessory, and…
Yeah, it shows time as well!

Bugatti Type 370 (Bugatti Veyron) watch

From the very beginning Bugatti people were planning to make these watches available solely to Bugatti Veyron owners, but later thought better of it and ordered more watches than cars: it seems like their data told them that there are more people ready to spend $300,000 on their watches than those ready to spend $1,500,000 on their cars.

In fact, the watch is very unusual. Its face looks more like a ‘cheek’ so that a driver can see the time when actually driving, without turning a wrist for that purpose.
When you ride at 252 miles per hour, it may definitely be the issue.
Moreover, although it is completely mechanical and needs wound every 10 days, its owner should not bother him- or herself with such a hard work: there is a special battery-powered device that winds the watch.
Work of art, truly!

Koenigsegg watch

Another famous supercar maker Koenigsegg also issued a limited edition of watches for owners of their four-wheel masterpieces.
However, these guys were in technology business for too long not to understand that creation of outstanding watch would take them some dozens years, so they turned to Qunting, an exclusive Swiss watchmaker, in order to make that very outstanding watch for them.
And here they are: Koenigsegg watches with transparent movement, all elements of which are made from sapphire crystals.
Only case, hands and strap are not transparent to save the Koenigsegg customers of the trouble finding their watches.

Wooden watch

Unlike the Koenigsegg-Quinting masterpiece this watch does not pretend to be invisible as it is completely – face, hand and cog – cut from the most improper material for precise mechanisms – wood.
Crafted somewhere in Eastern Europe in the early 1900’s, it still works! Amazed?
Everyone is!

Cabestan

In fact, this watch reminds of not something one wears on one’s wrist to know time, but something one installs on one’s battleship to manage anchor.
Seeing it work is mesmerizing.
Actually this watch is not a time-measurer, but a time-killer, as its owner can sit for hours just looking at the magical way the chains and cogs count the seconds. Probably that owner would do it near the fireplace at his own castle musing on the issue of what portion of that castle could he have rebuilt for the amount he spent on this wonder of mechanics, as “Cabestan” costs a small – but not the smallest – fortune.

Seiko Spectrum

Seiko once again produced something revolutionary in terms of watchmaking.
This watch relies on the latest film technology called ‘e-ink’ to provide high-contrast image together with stylishly, fifty-years-from-now-looking device.
Probably, that is what we will see all around the shelves of watch shops in mid-2000’s.

Timeflex.

Always wondered who first thought that wearing watch on the wrist is a good idea. Why not palm? Or foot? Or sleeve? “Timeflex” designers definitely thought that man had been all wrong from the very beginning.

Thus they made think that can stick everywhere you put it and even show time while trying hard to hold on there.A feast of flexibility and non-conformism, this watch!

According to estimates by the Swiss Customer Service, there are some 30 to 40 million counterfeit watches put into circulation each year. That means your chances to spot a fake Rolex watch are significant. However, after reading this guide, I hope you will have an idea of how to spot a fake Rolex watch, and you won't become a victim of an unscrupulous seller.

Fake Rolex Daytona

Learn To Spot A Fake Rolex With These Tips

There are two groups of counterfeit watches. The first group consists of low-priced imitations that keep time. A cheap counterfeit watch sports the name of a prestigious designer brand, but lacks the functions and design. The second group involves counterfeit watches made to resemble the original designer watch. There are some higher-priced imitation watches that are made from higher quality materials and have gold

-colored parts and leather straps.

Like many high-priced, designer watches, Rolex watches are frequently counterfeited and are sold illegally on the internet, on the streets, and at flea markets. These fakes are primarily made in Asian countries such as India, Korea, Taiwan and mainland China (however, there are counterfeit Rolexes being made in the USA as well). The prices are anywhere between $5-$1,000 depending on the quality of the replica. The higher-end counterfeits can have parts fabricated from solid karat gold (although many gold Rolex counterfeits use gold electroplating). The fake Rolex trade has become so sophisticated, that it's really hard to spot a fake Rolex these days. There there are even full-color, glossy marketing materials to accompany these fakes made in China and sold to retail vendors throughout Asia.

  • One common giveaway that a Rolex is a fake is a transparent case back which allows the watch movements to be seen. Rolex has almost neve r produced a watch like this except for some extremely rare models from the 1930's and some very new Cellini Price models.

  • Authentic Rolex watches never have a manufacturer eng raving of a logo, design or Rolex name on the outside of the caseback. The only exceptio n to this is the Sea-Dweller which says "Rolex Oyster Original Gas Escape Valve" on the back in black along with two Rolex logos.
  • Genuine Rolex models are free of engravings on the caseback, therefore they are smooth (however, there are some ladies' models with engraving on the caseback).
  • More recently, some genuine Rolex models were shipped new from the factory with a 3-dimensional, Hologram-encoded sticker on the caseback with a floating Rolex crown positioned above the watch's case reference number, which is now printed in black. Most fake stickers are a solid green color or are actually a re petitious "Rolex" pattern, not a hologram.

Additional Information

  • As of 2007, Rolex stopped using the hologram and new watches are not being shipped with them. I
  • In addition, inside the crystal of an authentic Rolex is a very subtle, almost invisible laser etched Crown Logo located at the 6:00 position. Some fakes have this etching, but it is often smaller than what is found on an authentic Rolex.
  • The date magnification of a Rolex is 2.5 times the normal size. The date should take up the entire glass bubble. There are some fake Rolexes that have a bigger font wheel to imitate this look, but come far from close to looking like the real appearance of the date.
  • The lettering on the dial should be precise. Under high-magnification, the type should reveal clean edges not found in forgeries.
  • Many fake Rolexes will have have regular glass instead of true sapphire crystal. A great test of the materials is to check the water surface tension. A smeared film of water will pull together on sapphire because the surface is smooth.
  • The second hand on a genuine Rolex always is smooth and continuous. Most fake Rolexes have movements that are small and jerky (although this is not always the case in higher-priced counterfeits).
  • The weight of an authentic Rolex is relatively heavy beca use of the materials used. This isn't a scientific method in determining a fake, but a counterfeit Rolex will feel lighter due to the cheaper materials used. In addition, the bands on a genuine Rolex are full whereas fakes often display hollow links.
  • The serial and case reference numbers on an authentic Rolex are engraved with great detail and are smooth. The numbers are located between the lugs on the side of the case. The numbers on counterfeit Rolexes often look like they have been sand-blasted or roughly etched into the ca se.

In Conclusion:

If you do have the ability to compare a replica Rolex next to the real thing, you will be able to spot the fake Rolex by noticing the subtle differences in the laser printing on the face, color differences on the band and dial, and other defects that will let you know if a Rolex is authentic or a replica. In addition, the edges on a Rolex and its band are not sharp and scratchy; they are smooth.

Gane Dragon Watches

European watch making's greatest artists is Kees Engelbarts (Dutch born) who has mastered the technique of Mokume Gane - a traditional Japanese artistic technique that literally means wood grain metal. The technique utilizes an incredible level of effort and hand engraving to achieve such pictured results. You see metals such as platinum, gold, and silver, as well as chemically colored steel used together in the creation of his mostly piece unique works.

As the level of effort in each of these watches is so high, Kees Engelbarts only makes a few pieces each year. Earlier in his career Engelbarts was called upon to work on watches for other brands - decorating movements, and creating his beautiful dials. He still does work for a limited number of brands, but most of his efforts are involved in his own brand, as well as the related Cornelius & Cie watch brand whose Chronosome watch is based on Kees Engelbarts flagship creation (pictured at the top) "The Dragon Gate Legend" watch. A few notable brands that have had piece unique timepieces with Kees Engelbarts iconic efforts are Harry Winston and Peter Speake-Marin.

Kees Engelbarts prefers to include NOS (new old stock) watch movements in his timepieces. A. Schild movements are popularly found in his creations. Movements from the 50s, 60s, and 70s are acquired, highly finished and decorated in his watches. Sometimes he uses even older movements such as the 1935 A. Schild Calibre AS 690 movement found in The Dragon Gate Legend watch. Each of his watches have sapphire crystal caseback that provide views to his beautifully hand engraved movement work.

Other watches in the Kees Engelbarts family share similar design aesthetics and comparable levels of detail and decoration. Both manually wound and automatic movements are employed by Kees Engelbarts, who also provides all the after service work on the watches. Given the extremely complex efforts and time involved in the luxury watches - as well as the fact that most of his pieces are one-of-kind watches, prices are predictably high (and via request only). Kees Engelbarts also performs custom work for those who have specific desires, as well as the means to afford them. For most people, Kees Engelbarts watches remain untouchable pieces of art that epitomize a beautiful yet masculine engraving and decorative design aesthetic.
