Ulysee Nardin’s $1.1 Million Watch

Ulysee Nardin's is selling watch worth $1.1 million . The timepiece is covered in pave diamonds and sapphires and the entire torubillon movement is suspended on a plate of pure sapphire. They were able to drill and attach all of the moving parts to a sheet of gemstone is pretty darn impressive. The entire mechanism rotates when winding and unwinding and there are blue sapphire crystals and blue screws holding the whole mess together. There is a reduced, or skeletonized, spring barrel that acts as a power reserve indicator.

TAG Heuer Diamond Fiction Watch

This luxury watch set with 879 Top Wesselton (5.8 carats) VS/SI (1.1 mm), full-cut, diamonds hides a surprising innovation: the digital display through the diamonds. 54 of the 879 diamonds have been cut in a revolutionary way to provide a very high-definition concentration of the light emitted by 54 LEDs (light emitting diodes) that display the time in glowing red. The red is echoed in the satin strap that gives a warm and silky look contrasting with the brilliance of the multiple diamonds.

Rolex “harder than rock solid” bezel material

Many Bezels are crafted from gold or silver, which is a relatively soft metal, and thus susceptible to scratches. The bezel of a Watch takes the brunt of many hard knocks. In addition a Bezel can deteriorate in sunlight and chlorinated water. Rolex has created a Bezel able to withstand scratches, and deterioration by using an extremely hard ceramic material called yttrium-stabilized zirconia. This material is the same dentists use for tooth crowns. This ceramic material has a hardness of 1200 Vickers which accounts for a whole slew of corrosion-resistant properties:

  • Its color is not affected by ultra-violet rays.
  • It is virtually scratch-proof. (”Proof” is a word not often used by watch companies as no material is completely “scratch proof” or “water-proof”. Usually the word “resistance” is preferred. However, Rolex in its advertising campaign in regard to the Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II Bezel used the word “proof”. Therefore Rolex must have complete confidence in this Bezel material.

A bezel of this hardness challenges the inscription process, as inscriptions need to “scratch” this virtually “scratch-proof” material. Rolex has patented a unique process to inscribe the Bezel.

The numerals are carved in the Bezel before it hardens at 1500 °C. After this process, cathodic magnetron sputtering, covers the entire Bezel with a thin layer of gold or platinum, atom by atom. The Bezel is then polished, permanently leaving the precious metal in the numerals. This entire process takes 40 solid hours. Once the process is complete, the polished look of the watch will remain forever.

Tag Heuer Formula 1 Quartz Watch For 2010

The watch case is 41mm wide in steel with a PVD black titanium bezel and crown. This is really a major thing, as older basic Tag Heuer Formula 1 watches had mere plastic bezels. So the last few years of these metal ones has been highly appreciated. The case with its lugless design is really fantastic. The side of the case says "Tag Heuer," and the case is water resistant to 200 meters and has a sapphire crystal. This is really one of our modern classics. Tag Heuer watch collections each have interesting signature elements to them. They do a really good job with features like that, and the Formula 1 pieces are no different. Unlike some of the "fancier" new Formula 1 watches, this model (ref. WAH1110.BA0858) has a basic three-hand dial (with the date). There are four Arabic numerals in the new font Tag has been using. Dial is black with white indicators and red accents. The watch comes on a steel metal bracelet or rubber strap. Retail price is about $900, but most prices online have the watch costing a bit over $600. Great deal for that. This is quite possibly a perfect everyday casual sport watch.

The 2010 TUDOR Heritage Chrono Watch

Heritage essentially is the rich legacy that passes down to generations and Tudor Heritage is one legacy that is created at the crossroads of vintage and velocity. The 2010 TUDOR Heritage Chrono models itself on the 1970s model, retaining the original shape and proportions of the middle case, bezel, lugs and bracelet. To suit every taste, Heritage Chrono comes in either grey on black or black on grey. The style gets significant with the stunning orange details and 3-D appliqué rather than printed pentagonal-shaped hour markers and two counters.

Here is what makes TUDOR Heritage Chrono a charming addition to your precious time-keeping collection:

  • The beveled and polished edges of the lugs look breathtakingly elegant.
  • Slick, stylized shoulders protect the crown, and the knurled edge of the rotatable bezel and of the pushers that flank a knurled winding crown to improve grip.
  • The 45-minute counter reiterates the counter of the 1970s, dictated by the very structure of its 7734 Valjoux movement and the need for optimal legibility.
  • A thicker, wider, sleeker watch case of the TUDOR Heritage Chrono, once 40 mm and now 42 mm, is altogether in keeping with the dimensions of today’s chronographs.
  • It boasts the reference to the 7033 bidirectional rotatable bezel, originally designed for the 1970s first edition of the watch but was never distributed.
  • Today it bears the reference number 70330, with a black eloxed aluminum disc, and comes with both a three-link solid steel bracelet with a new clasp and TUDOR shield logo, as well as, a black, grey and orange fabric strap, with a newly developed vintage- and seat belt inspired buckle.
  • The rich heritage accumulated for the last forty years finally culminates to the 2010 TUDOR Heritage Chrono, a fitting addition to the TUDOR Sport collection, which is ingeniously inspired by the celebrated TUDOR Oysterdate Chronograph of the early 1970s.
  • It is a fitting ode to the historic links and shared values of the TUDOR and Porsche brands and to the powerful TUDOR-Porsche Motorsport partnership signed in 2009, when TUDOR became “Timing Partner” for Porsche.

Futuristic watch by Swarovski

Swarovski has launched its first visionary watch collection: “Avant Time”.

The result of the ambitious project is an avant-garde timepiece, called “D:Light” and designed by the creative talent of renowned watch designer Eric Giroud.

“D:Light” is a futuristic model that links new electronic technologies with jewellery design.

Artistically fashioned in super fine steel or gold, first Swarovski timepiece brings together the functions of emotion-creating watch, bracelet and collector’s item.

Its rectangular dial is a real crystal screen, designed by Swarovski featuring 171 exclusive Xilion-cut crystals.

As if by magic, the time appears with a simple touch on the Swan cabochon. The crystals change colour, light up, sparkle and show the hours and minutes in luminous orange dotted lines. No date, no hands, just a 12 or 24 hour clock function.

It has a gold-tone steel bracelet with the wide faceted, polished links and butterfly clasp and it is reversible so it can be worn on the left or right hand.

Hiding an induction system, a stylish white charging dock enables the watch to fully recharge in three hours and should then remain charged for a month.

Set on the dock, the timepiece transforms itself yet again and becomes a design piece.
